WELCOME! We are thrilled to be a part of the 2011State of the Art Conference on Postsecondary Education and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities.
Eliza will be speaking today (November 3rd) as one of the keynote panelists at 3:45 about her hopes and dreams for college and about her experience last fall where she enrolled to take a ceramics class, then was dismissed 2/3 of the way through the Quarter. Come hear Eliza and others share why going to college is important to them.
We have also set up a display by the registration table titled - Eliza's Experience. You will find photographs, letters from Westfield State University students, handouts about Eliza's current public speaking advocacy along with Where's Eliza wristbands. You can also view the 16 minute documentary - Hold My Hand - about Eliza and her college experience and see her 3 1/2 minute art slide show.
On Eliza's BLOG (right here!) you will find detailed information about Eliza's experience at Southern Oregon University from start to finish. It is our sincere hope that through Eliza's speaking to college students throughout this next year while she is waiting to get into college that we can take a difficult experience of exclusion and begin opening doors through awareness to the desire and the need for creating more access to postsecondary education for students with intellectual disabilities.
Eliza and Deb will be around all during the conference - Thursday, Friday and Saturday - and look forward to talking to many of you!
The display will mean such a lot. I do remember lots of wonderful displays during conferences - and it's good to have something on the side, like a goody bag.
ReplyDeleteHope you make a good speech, Eliza!
Hope you meet lots of good people.
Eliza's speech was very inspiring and received a well-deserved standing O.
